World No. 1 Roger Federer captured his third Hamburg title, seventh Masters title and sixth title of the year after defeating 18-year-old Richard Gasquet 6-4, 7-5, 7-6(4) in the final of the Masters Series Hamburg. Federer avenged his quarter-final loss to Gasquet in Monte-Carlo last month.
Federer, the second player who wins Hamburg three times, since Ukrainian Andrei Medvedev captured Hamburg title thrice (1994, 1995 and 1997).
Federer posted his 19th consecutive victory in the finals and improved to 26-2 in the finals since capturing his first Hamburg title in 2002.
Swiss now holds an impressive 41-2 on the year, leveling Rafael Nadal (41-6) for the most match wins on the ATP circuit this season.
Richard Gasquet jumps to 15th place in the ATP Race appearing in only three events of the year.
